A 3.4MW small hydropower plant in commercial operation under PT Mulya Energi Lestari, Alamport Renewables’ portfolio company

30th Jun 2026

Alamport Renewables Pte. Ltd. (“AR”), a subsidiary of Alamport Inc. (“Alamport”) and jointly managed by Alamport and EnBio Holdings Inc. (“Enbio”), would like to announce that one of the invested company named PT Mulya Energi Lestari (“MEL”) has achieved commercial operation for a 3.4MW run-of-river small hydropower plant, Pungga Project on 26th June, 2026. The power plant is located in North Sumatra Province, Indonesia, and the electricity generated by the plant will be supplied to PLN under a long-term power purchase agreement. The project is expected to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by approximately 8,863 tCO annually.

MEL was established in 2016 to develop, construct and operate hydropower plants in Indonesia. MEL currently owns six projects in Sumatera (two under operation as of this time, four under development, MEL’s equity output: 52.5 MW).

This power plant was selected under the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s FY2022 “Financing Programme for Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) Model Projects”. Alamport has participated in the project as a joint partner participant. In addition, AR has provided equity investments to MEL for supporting the development of its portfolio projects.

In Indonesia, renewable energy currently accounts for only approximately 15% of electricity supply as of 2025. According to the Electricity Supply Business Plan (Rencana Usaha Penyediaan Tenaga Listrik / RUPTL) issued by PLN, the ratio of renewable energy is targeted to increase to approximately 34% by 2034 and carbon neutral by 2060. To meet this goal, the government aims to increase approximately 21 GW of renewable energy between 2021 and 2030, with hydropower, including small-scale hydro projects, expected to account for around 10 GW, nearly 50% of the total increase in renewable energy capacity. As outlined in the government’s plan, there are high expectations for hydropower generation, and the Alamport group will continue to play an active role in promoting hydropower projects in Indonesia to contribute to the country’s renewable energy goals.
